A group of Red Rose Runners got a little more than they bargained for when they entered The Cartmel 11.5 race. Due to marshalling errors(?) Albert Bolton and some 40 other runners ended up doing a half marathon distance and finishing a long time after the rest of the field. Even the actual course presented a very stern test for all the runners. Steep hills, loose rocks and ankle deep mud and water, made for a tough test for Debbie Kirkman, Stuart Cann and Cliff Utting. Times of around 1:47 were largely irrelevant on this difficult course.
Back from a seven week trip to Australia and New Zealand Ken Addison proved that Brits can still hold their own in races around the globe. Days after arriving in New Zealand Ken took on the Wellington Half Marathon and 2000 runners in soaring temperatures. Conserving his energy he ran 1:29:56 to take 3rd Vet 50. On the Australian leg of his journey he ran the Melbourne 15K in 61:55 winning the Vet 50 prize and 19th overall.
