LEP Race Reports for 18th May 2011

Red Rose Runners hosted the “Alternative” Boxing Day Run at Worden Park. In excellent running conditions the new two lap course provided a chance to record good times. The Worden Arts Centre provided an excellent race HQ with snacks and drinks readily available for runners and their families. Runners from far and wide enjoyed the virtually traffic free course with 168 finishers.

The race was won by Marc Hartley of Staffordshire Moorlands in 32:47 , in second place Nick Leigh of Altrincham in 33:18 and in third place was Marko Gvero of Keighley and Craven.

In the ladies race Sarah Ridehalgh of Accrington won in 38:43, second was Joanne Taylor of Lancaster and Morecambe in 40:52 and third was Dawn Atkins in 41:10.

Some Red Rose runners competed in the race but many members were involved in race organisation and on the course as race marshals. The club look forward to this becoming an annual event under a new name to replace the Boxing Day event.

Red Rose finishers were Alison Haslam running well for 45:51, Gary Vernal 47:57, Keith Burrows 50:03, Albert Bolton 50:30 and David Wilkinson 56:50.
