LEP Race Reports for 1st October 2011

At the tough hilly Garstang Half Marathon Mark Billington made an impressive debut running 1.34.48 well ahead of his club mates. Paul Woan  clocked 1.39.20 with Simon  Murphy just over a minute behind in 1.40.33. Three new members chose this difficult  race as an introduction to competition with Nigel Pickles running 1.47.18, Natalie McGuffie 1.47.45 and Louise Gavell 2.09.00. Well done everyone.

At the Lancaster 5K John Shepherd gave a strong performance breaking 18 minutes with Shane Cliffe running a PB in his lead up to his next marathon attempt in Amsterdam.

Results: John Shepherd 17:57, Shane Cliffe 19:11 Andrew Baxendale 21:28,  John Hunter 24:30, Deborah Wood 27:19

In the Preston City 10K, eighteen club members ran the challenging course in good weather conditions. Joe Swarbrick  ran 38:41 to take first Vet 55 prize in 26th place with Ken Addison taking 2nd place in the same category in 39:16. Shane Cliffe ran 41:53 following his 5K the night before.

Mark Billington ran another good race finishing in 43:23 with Richard Oakley putting in a solid performance in 43.49 before running the 5K in 21.56. Paul Woan finished in 43:57 whilst Barry Wheeler , 43:37, edged out Simon Murphy who finished in 43.42.

Julie Coupe was the first Red Rose lady finishing in an excellent 48 minutes with Carolyn Douglass taking the Vet 65 prize in 50.44. New to racing, Rachel Porter, was encouraged by taking 2nd Vet 35 prize in 50.47.

Other club members completed the strong turn out with the following times Tom McNicholas  56.58, Sally Cape  57.55, Michael Jeffryes 57.03, Nicola Machin 58.49, Arthur Green  59.43, Vicky Shaw  1.00.11, Sandra Rolston  1.14.49.
