Most peoples’ first race of the year is often the Garstang 10K. This year’s race attracted 445 runners. Good conditions out on the course were matched by efficient marshalls. In spite of the undulating course many good times were recorded.
Joe Swarbrick and Ken Addison once more fought for the Vet 55 prize and first club place. After a race long battle 13 seconds separated them with Swarbrick just reaching the line first. Jose Pinon Shaw continues to improve and must have been well pleased with 40.58 to be comfortably the third Red Rose home. Simon Houghton just edged out Shane Cliffe by 10 seconds in a time of 43.05. Julie Coupe was first Red Rose lady home in an excellent time of 47.53 ahead of Christina Wright who got very close to 50 minutes finishing in 50.03. Alan Raby came close to a PB with his 51.56 with Anne Wallworth making a rare appearance on the roads running 53.07. David Wilkinson and Bernard Elkington came in together in a time of 57.35. Adela Nuttall put in a spirited performance finishing under the hour in a time of 58.43. Janet Saynor made her first appearance for a while and came home in 70.39.
