The first Badger 10k Trail Run took place at Cuerden Valley in wet cool conditions. Red Rose had 15 runners with Clare Bunce winning the ladies race in an excellent time of 43.31. Her performance along with Debbie Kirkman’s 48.14 (Vet 40 prize) and Julie Thorley’s 54.00 meant they took the ladies team prize.
In the men’s race John Shepherd lead Red Rose home in 6th place in 39.31 and first V45. In 7th place was Stuart Roberts in 40.42 and in 8th, Joe Swarbrick in 41.06. This was enough to take the men’s team prize. Ken Addison just managed to hold off Ben Donoghue with a time of 42.20 with Ben immediately behind in 42.21. Shane Cliffe ran 43.11. In 25th place was Paul Woan in 44.35 with Barry Wheeler running 45.18 and Stuart Cann close behind in 45.29. Tony Thorley ran 49.09.
Andy Baxendale produced a great result in beating his 10k time by 2 minutes on a very tough course, finishing in 51.26. John Wiseman was next in 52.20. Yvonne Johnson ran 55.07. Other results: Gavin Beetham 56.41, Roger Johnson 57.13, Alan Raby 58.45, Sally Cape 60.21.
In Saturday’s Parkrun John Johnson ran a new 5K PB in 23.35 and Yvonne Johnson ran a best time of 25.58. John Allen competing for the first time ran 24.51.
At the Morecambe 10k Jose Pinon Shaw, 2nd V40, had a great run breaking 40 minutes for the first time in 39.45. Simon Houghton ran well in 43.02. Debbie Kirkman took first F40 in 45.53. Jo Duffy and Pete Gibson ran the course together with Jo finishing in 46.30 and Peter taking the V65 prize. Bernard Elkington ran an impressive 56.32 to take the V75 prize.
