John Shepherd achieved a new personal best at the Lancaster 10k with a 36.15 taking the V45 prize. Mark Billington showed he’s coming back to form with 42.18. An excellent performance from Jo Duffy was helped by Peter Gibson partnering her as they finished in 45.49. Jamie Jardine was pleased with 46.18 and Bernard Elkington finished in 58.29 as the only V75 runner.
The latest club Grand Prix race was the Elswick 10 mile. In warm conditions 124 runners tackled the largely flat course. Joe Swarbrick came home 12th in a time of 64.01 to take the first V55 position. Second V55 was Ken Addison finishing in 65.28 having to fight off a strong challenge from Shane Cliffe who finished in 65.37. Jose Pinon Shaw finished in 23rd place in 66.44 followed closely by Phil Butler in 66.50.
Claire Bunce had tough competition in the ladies race taking 2nd place in 67.09. Barry Wheeler succeeded in breaking 70 minutes with a well judged 69.17. Rachel Hull ran her first 10 mile race in 71.48 to gain 5th place in the ladies’ race. Phil Davidson was 41st in 73.00. Debbie Kirkman ran well for 3rd F40 in 76.12. Tony Thorley finished well in 77.49 and Paula Plowman took the F45 prize in 81.09.
Dave Maudsley narrowly beat Julie Thorley in a time of 83.39 with Julie in 83.50. The warm conditions made it a tough finish for most runners and new to the 10 mile race distance, Caroline Devaney was satisfied with 89.40 followed by Gavin Beetham in 91.06, Emma Cowie Shaw (93.55) and Sally Cape, suffering an injured foot, still finished in 92.15.
Jenny Harrison took part in her first Parkrun and finished in 27.40.
