Eight Red Rosers tackled the Boulsworth Fell Race, a 7.5 mile race with 1400ft. The route passes through farmland on the way to and back from the foot of Boulsworth, with the middle section consisting of a clockwise loop over the summit utilising the concessionary footpath, which provides an opportunity for some proper muddy Pennine fell running! First home was Shane Cliffe in 25th place, in an excellent time of 62.25 with Phil Butler about a minute behind in 63.35. Claire Bunce was next home with a great run finishing as 8th lady in 66.40. Other creditable performances were recorded by the whole team of Geoff Haworth 66.40, Philip Davidson 70.04, Peter Bolton 73.11, Sally Cape 87.43, George Fletcher 91.17.
Paula Plowman and Stuart Cann did the Cancer Care Cross Bay challenge, the toughest one for a few years due to strong head winds and deep, cold, fast flowing water – and a longer route than normal, 13.5 miles. Stuart’s time was 1hr 54 and Paula’s time was 2.12. In recent Parkruns Red Rose has produced new PB’s for the 5k run. Shane Cliffe claimed two in two weeks. 19.24 was followed a week later with a blistering 18.58 to post the fastest V45 time on the Preston circuit. Jenny Harrison improved her time by 39 seconds to run 26.21. Three club members ran the route for the first time, Karen Ashton 37.03, Keith O’Brien 39.34 and Judith Cook 40.05.
