This week’s main event for Red Rose was the 3rd Cuerden Valley Badger 10k. 17 members took part with a field of 212. Joe Swarbrick went out quickly and recorded his best time of the series finishing 15th in 40.55. Ken Addison, placed 22nd in 42.01 for 3rd V55. Ben Donoghue looked comfortable whilst finishing in 42.32 with Phil Butler next with a time of 43.19. Barry Wheeler’s time of 43.42 was nearly 2 minutes faster than his June race time. Dave Maudsley ran this course for the first time and ran well to finish in 46.45. Phil Darwen took the varied terrain in his stride with a time of 47.59. First Red Rose women was Paula Plowman in 50.07, 46 seconds up on her previous attempt. Yvonne Johnson was 3rd F50 in 55.23. Gavin Beetham managed to slice almost a minute off his previous best with a time of 55.45. An improvement of almost 2 minutes saw Joan Goldthorpe take the F60 prize in 56.22.
A trio of red vests followed, with George Fletcher (57.30) Alan Raby improving on his June time by almost a minute and Tony Corrigan competing for the first time in a time of 57.44. Emma Cowie Shaw finished in 61.26 ahead of Roger Johnson who was returning tentatively after injury in 63.32. Sue Harrison competing in the F55 category had a time of 67.55.
At the Catforth 5k Paul Woan completed the course in 20.02 for 14th place in a small field of 37 runners. In Lancaster, Phil Darwen and Darren Smith took part in the Wagon and Horses 10 miles with Phil coming out on top in 72.05 and Darren finishing in 73.27. In the recent Lancaster 5K Keith Obrien ran 35.18 and Judith Cook ran 36.08.
