Red Rose tackle the Cliviger 6

Red Rose Road Runners ran the 34th Cliviger 6 mile as their latest Championship race. The race forms part of the Burnley and Pendle series. After early morning downpours the race started with 138 runners, in warm conditions on a drawn out incline for the first mile. Respite in the way of a long downhill section took the runners into pleasant parkland which lead out onto the main road back to Cliviger. Strong competition between club members developed with six runners breaking 40 minutes. Joe Swarbrick came in19th overall in 38.15, rapidly being chased down by Ben Donoghue who finished in 38.33. Ken Addison finished in 39.11 narrowly beating Jose Pinon Shaw (39.26.) Claire Bunce worked her way through the field to finish 3rd lady in 39.51, just being strong enough to finish in front of Phil Butler who finished in 39.56.

Shane Cliffe ran 40.10 after a 5k Parkrun of 19.24 the day before. Rachel Hull had another great run in 40.49 preparing her well for her early season football training as she heads off back to America. Geoff Haworth running on familiar home ground ran 43.18 followed by Debbie Kirkman in 45.18 and 2nd F40. Barry Wheeler ran a sensible race in the midst of marathon training, finishing in 46.34. Paula Plowman, 47.49, was pleased with a strong run over the hilly course. Gavin Beetham finished in 55.33. Sally Cape was next in with an evenly paced 56.16. Bernard Elkington as the oldest competitor ran 57.33 with Emma Cowie Shaw finishing well inside the hour in 59.03.
