At the Boxing Day 10K nearly 300 hundred runners took part in the Worden Park based race. The first half of the race was within the confines of the park before heading out on the back lanes to return to the park up a short sharp climb on Worden Lane. Joe Swarbrick finished in 38.38 in 24th place and first V55. Ken Addison was second V55 in 39.28. Rachel Hull made a surprise appearance, with a great run of 40.53 to finish 6th lady overall. Phil Butler ran a satisfying 41.31 with a posse of Red Rose runners following, Phil Darwen (42.32), Doug Bryden (42.46) and Richard Oakley 43.13. Steven Gore was pleased with 44.14 and Peter Gibson took 1st V65 with a time of 44.47. New member Steve Hollis put in a good performance with 45.42 and Tony Thorley followed in 48.15. Paula Plowman was second out of four Red Rose ladies in a time of 49.15. Andy Speer came in under 50 minutes (49.46) and Ken Chadderton finished in 50.54. Warren Hoyle, back from injury ran 51.35 and Matt Ashton came in half a minute later in 52.05. Peter Caunce (53.07) was followed by David Wilkinson in 55.15. Sally Cape coped well with the impatient driving of another park user as she hit the final corner with enough energy to alert the driver to the inadequacy of his technique. Colin Manning finished in 61.31 and Bernard and Evelyn Elkington showed us all how to still be running well into our seventies with times of 62.54 and 64.52.
