At the latest Welcome Tavern 5K races nine Red Rose Runners competed in a field of 56. A close pack of three ‘Rosers’ Dave Maudsley, Stuart Cann and Steve Whitney developed into a test of strength on a warm summer’s evening. As the race progressed Maudsley eventually opened up a significant gap to finish in 19.10, leaving Cann and Whitney to fight all the way to the line with Stuart Cann prevailing by 5 seconds in a time of 19.32. Another good performance came from Steven Gore with a time of 20.51.
Debbie Kirkman continued her rich seam of form with another victory in a time of 21.39. Another new face making an appearance was Aidan Bermingham running an evenly paced race finished well in 23.45. Colin Manning and Carole Williams crossed the line with the same time of 28.26 and Sally Cape returned to action with no ill effects in a time of 33.31.
The Preston Parkrun provided the chance for PB attempts on what is a challenging 3 lap course. Stuart Cann had a battle on his hands as John Allen showed his continued progress. Both broke the 20 minute barrier with Stuart finishing in 19.44 and John in 19.55. Joe Donoghue also showed even more progress with a strong run of 20.25 and Steven Gore was encouraged with a first time attempt finishing in 20.35. Kate Bosman ran a new PB of 30.52 and Ann Donoghue claimed a PB with a time of 32.01.
