RRRR runner of the week must be Debbie Kirkman who ran the Horwich Jubilee Series. 3rd lady + 2nd V40 in the final leg of the series on Wednesday evening, in a time of 34.33, was enough to give Debbs overall series victory in both the open and V40 categories. Mark Billington and Cliff Utting both ran, Mark managed 41st 33.09 and Cliff 82nd 37.38.
At the Burnsall Feast of Sport on Saturday several club members turned up for another leg of the club’s Grand Prix races. The Grand Prix race was the 10 mile road race. This is a very undulating course that follows a loop out to Grassington and back so fast times are well earned here.
Ben Donoghue ran a superb race for 15th place in a time of 61.23. A sub hour race is surely just a matter of finding a flatter route. It was a story of 3rd places in the 10 year age group categories for Ken Addison V50, John Hyde V60 and Anne Wallwork lady V50. Ken was 30th 67.04, John 83rd 82.01 and Anne 109th 93.18.
V50 Fred Lynch just missed the 70 minute barrier by 2 seconds for 39th. Stuart Cann and Shane Cliffe were only seconds apart in 46th and 48th places 71.29 to 71.48. Anthony Murphy completed the race in 76.39 64th. Frank Nightingale continues to improve, the Thursday training must be working, he managed 78.38 for 71st place. Barry Wheeler 79th 81.06 with Allan Howard 116th and Sal Cape 120th completing the race but no allocated a time on the results. One notable feature of this race was that over 90% of the entries were from club runners.
If that was not enough for 4 hardy or is that foolhardy runners. Barely an hour later they were off again in the classic fell race. Once again Ben led the way in 87th place 23.04, Frank was 112th 25.11, Barry 122nd 27.47 with Anthony close on his heals racing for the line 123rd 27.52. The older and wiser RRRR contingent cheered them on.
Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, Joe Swarbrick ran the testing course at the Fivemiletown 10k in 39 minutes to be 10th overall and second in the only Vet category, V45.
