Red Rose Road Runners hosted the final Inter Club race of the season in WordenPark. After a delayed start 183 runners began the race on a largely traffic free course of 4.2 miles.
With some high quality runners filling the top positions, Ben Donoghue again confirmed his quality with 8th place in great time of 22.20. With a brilliant turn out from club members to marshall the race and provide a great after race buffet, a team of 21 runners did the club proud. Ken Addison battled hard with Joe Swarbrick to get the better of each other in the V55 class with Ken remaining strong in the final mile to repel any last gasp efforts from his rival, to finish 4 seconds ahead in 24.34. Stuart Cann, having run a very swift first mile, needed to battle it out with Steve Whitney to finish in 25.37 in 43rd place with Steve finishing in 25.40. Yet another battle ensued between Anthony Murphy and young Joe Donoghue with Anthony finishing in 26.07 only 9 seconds in front.
John Allen (27.11), Steve Bladon (27.22) and Paul Dawson (27.33) all had good runs finishing within sight of each other. The next group of runners forced good performances out of each other. Doug Bryden finished in 28.16 followed immediately by Barry Wheeler in 28.23 and Geoff Haworth in 28.26. Aiden Bermingham, new to the Inter Club races ran 30.10 with Luke Bosman running inside 8 minute miles for a time of 32.26.
