The re arranged Coniston 14 took place on October 12 after postponement from March due to snow. The weather conditions were excellent with the Coniston Old Man bathed in sunshine. The usual field of over a thousand runners took on the demanding undulating course. First RRRR home was Joe Swarbrick in 1:34:04 taking the 3rd V55 prize. Shane Cliffe ran a comfortable 1:48:52. Phil Davidson and John Wiseman were trying this classic race for the first time. Phil finished in 1:51:56 and John in 1:57:45.
At the Cuerden Valley Parkrun the glory went to Anneke Crosby as she was the first lady across the line. PB’s were posted by Andy Speer 26.08, Paula Plowman 27.09, John Plowman 27.11 and Roger Johnson 27.28.
At the Autumn Breaker 10k, Stuart Cann finally cracked 40 minutes for a PB of 39.48 finishing 2nd V45 and Matt Ashton ran 47.24.
A host of Red Rose turned out to marshall the Vernon 4 mile race in aid of the Brathay Trust. Janine Needham won the Ladies race in a great time of 27.35. Ben Donoghue was 3rd male over the line in a time of 22.32. Steve Bladon took 10th place in 25.50 closely followed by Anthony Murphy in a time of 25.59. Richard Oakley ran 26.20 to be the V60 winner followed by Mark Bilington in 26.22.
Red Rose took the lion’s share of prizes with a fantastic turn out of 36 runners in a field of 113. Kate Bosman (39.04) took the F35 prize, Carol Cookson (34.54) F40, Anneke Crosby (30.09) F45, Anne Wallworth (30.32) F55, Joan Goldthorpe (32.05) F60 and Evelyn Elkington (39.16) F75.
