Ladies Impress at St. Annes 10

Last weekend saw a good turnout of Red Rose Runners in different races around the area.

Saturday morning saw 19 take up the early morning challenge of parkrun. At Preston there were 6 runners including Jonathon Finch who dipped under 20 minutes with 19.56 and mother and daughter team of Diana Hill 26.48 and junior girl age 10 Sophie 28.11 both setting new bests for the event.

While at Cuerden Valley another 13 took up the challenge of this testing course with Rob Mather 24.39 and Ian Warton 25.09 both setting PB’s. A mention also goes to young Alice Lodge, another of our junior girls age 10 who finished with 37.01.

If you fancy trying a parkrun they are run every Saturday morning at 9am and are free. Just go to the parkrun website, register your details and print the barcode that you will need to take to the race so be scanned at the finish. That’s it. They are a friendly bunch and all are made welcome,  so it is an ideal way to get more involved in running and meeting like minded people. No need to be a member of a club either. There is loads of other information available on their website.

At St. Annes there was the annual 10 mile Lancashire Championships. Here we had 11 runners led home in the breezy conditions by Ken Addison 36th in 64.46. The stars of the day though were our ladies Deb Kirkman 1st v40 in 73.34 and Carole Douglas 1st v65 in 86.14 with the ladies team of Deb, Janine Needham 75.10 and Margaret Lupton 80.03 being second ladies team.

Another good run from v60 Richard Oakley saw him finish in 67.35 and 2nd v60. Debbie Porter 85.24, Joan Gouldthorpe 89.06, Alex Oakley 91.21, George Fletcher 94.49 and Lisa Galloway 100.14 completed the team turn out.

Those training for Spring marathons often take on the challenge of the Trimpell 20. This reasonable flat course is a good marker to see were you are for the longer distance. This year Red Rose had just 4 runners there, Jose Pinon Shaw continued his good run of results with 2hrs 17 min 58sec, Jill Jefferson continues to impress in the lady v55 group being 1st again in 2.37.02, Anthony Murphy 3.22.29 and Colin Manning 3.40.51 completed the RRRR line up.

Check out the Red Rose website and Facebook pages for all there is to know about the club. There is always lots going on with our midweek training runs proving very popular with all abilities welcome.
