The Red Rose Runners Fell Championship has had two races in quick succession. The first being the Wincle Trout race in Macclesfield where runners were rewarded with a trout! Aggie’s Staircase was the latest club fell championship race with 17 Red Rose Runners tackling the course. Starting at the top of Punstock Road, the route climbed to Darwen Tower then descended through a small quarry onto the main track towards the top of Bold Venture Park, before turning right to climb steeply up a rough path known as Jacobs Ladder, then across the moor top, and on down to the foot of Aggie’s Staircase. Aggie’s Staircase was the shortest but steepest of the three climbs from which the runners returned to the start via the Tower and Sunnyhurst Woods.
