Another busy week for runners

Red Rose runner, Alan Jolly took on the Harden Hard ‘Un 27 mile Trail race in Yorkshire.   It is a challenging circular course, around 50% of which is open moorland. There is around 1250m (4100ft) of ascent that comes courtesy of valleys crossings. On his 5th attempt at the race, in roasting temperatures, Alan achieved an impressive PB of 6.24.26.

At the Windmill half marathon Jose Pinon Shaw ran another great time of 1.27.07to be 19th overall and 2nd V45. Richard Maughan managed a top 100 place in a time of 1.41.17 with Sarah Maltby breaking the elusive  barrier of 2hours in 1.58.26. The performance of the day however goes to Mike Jeffryies who knocked  17 minutes off his PB to finish in 2.01.57. Percy Moyo also had an encouraging run in the sun with a time of 2.14.37. Ann Donoghue ran well for 2.14.37 accompanying Bill Sumner who ran his first half in 15 years. Lydia Plackett completed thecourse in 2.36.20 only a week after her strong Coniston run.

At the ‘We love Manchester’ 10k Phil Darwen ran a PB of 40.25 to finish 74th out of 2325 runners and Carol Douglass took the F65 prize at the Pilling 10k in a time of 52.18.

Parkrun PB success is lead this week by Vicky Gore who posted her 4th PB on the bounce in a time of 27.58 with Joanne Malcolmson improving with a time of 27.05, Janet Saynor 33.20 and Karen Clark 30.24.

New member Chris Brown represented the club for the first time at the British 10k London Run.

The Trawden 7 is a great testing course with a variety of terrain favouring  strong runners. Ian Wharton came in with a time of 59.49, Debbie Porter ran well for 62.14 as did Aimee Midgley(82.55) and Ramona Mulligan (88.41)

Monday night saw the latest Inter Club race hosted by Wesham Road Runners.35 RR runners turned out for the 4.5 mile race with Ben Donoghue leading the way in 15th place in a great time of 26.02. In 27.20, Ken Addison held onto his early race pace to be 29th and 4th V50 followed by Joe Swarbrick in 27.24. Joe Donoghue maintained a determined pace in the second half of the race to cross the line in 27.45. Steve Whitney finished in 47th place in 28.03 and Stuart Cann seconds behind in 29.03 to complete the V50 team who placed second behind Preston Harriers.
