Red Rose took on the Fleetwood half marathon with 19 runners, some taking on the distance for the first time. Ben Donoghue ran well for a top 20 place with a time of 1.21.18 with Jose Pinon Shaw just over powering Ken Addison in the latest stage of the race to finish in 1.24.51 with Ken finishing in 1.25.22 to be 29th overall and 2nd V55. Dave Brunton was close to a 90 minute finish missing out by only 19 seconds. Anthony Murphy fought well for 1.34.37 with Dave Hooton meeting tough V60 oppositon with a good time of 1.35.47. Jill Jefferson produced a brilliant time of 1.36.03 to take the F55 prize by a considerable margin. Stuart Cann managed 1.38.51 but isn’t yet back to full fitness. Paula Plowman’s effort was rewarded with a PB of 1.46.30. Next in was Steve Coey in a time of 1.47.29 before Debbie Porter (1.57.50) and another great PB performance for Jenny Fairclough, just cracking two hours with 1.59.44. Emma Johnson was pleased with her first attempt at a half marathon running 2.06.14. Allan Howard ran another steady race (2.10.22) followed by Martin Simpson in 2.20.07. Colin Manning finished in 2.23.58, Wendy Ward was close behind in 2.24.38 and completing a good club performance Ann Donoghue ran 2.28.41 and Lydia Plackett 2.43.29.
The Pilling 10k from the Elletson Arms attracted runners looking for a fast 10k course. Steven Gore seeking to build on his Capenhurst 5k time of 19.19 attempted to go sub 40 but was frustrated with 41.32 Carol Douglass acquitted herself well with 50.10 to win the F65 prize and V60 winner Joan Gouldthorpe ran a solid 53.12.
The inaugural Red Rose Road Runners Summer Olympics will be held 11.00 on Sunday 31st August 2014 at the UCLan Sports Arena, Tom Benson Way, Preston PR2 1SG. All Red Rose Road Runners are welcome and are encouraged to bring along their children. There is no charge for members or their children. Members can bring guests for a fee of £2 on the day.
The day will consist of a number of popular short and middle distance track events as well as school sports day favourites including the Wheelbarrow race and Egg and Spoon.
