Runners take on Challenging Fell Race

Another busy week of racing for Red Rose Road Runners saw entries in 3 very different competitions.

Wednesday saw 10 members compete in the latest leg of the clubs fell championship, the tough up and down Whittle Pike Fell Race which by all accounts involved a bit of scrambling as well.

Frank Nightingale was first home for the club 32nd, 55.28. The first lady scorer was Margaret Lupton 73rd, 64.46. Others to brave this tough event were, fell specialist Geoff Haworth 39th, 56.35, Phil Davidson 47th, 59.33, Stuart Cann 53rd, 60.40, Steve Coey 80th, 67.49, Debbie Porter 84th, 68.45, Gavin Beetham 92nd, 76.21, Sally Cape 95th, 81.42 and Pita Oates 97th, 96.08.

Thursday evening saw the final Badger Trail Run of the Summer at Cuerden Valley Park. 19 Red Rosers were led home by Joe Swarbrick, V55 winner 22nd, 42.21. Jill Jefferson was the clubs leading lady and continues to win the V55 ladies awards 89th, 49.18. Another serial winner, Carol Douglass again won the V65 category 146th, 54.29.

Other runners were, Richard Crompton 53rd, 45.32, Kitty Chambers 109th, 51.24, John Wiseman 130th 53.05, Yvonne Johnson 148th, 54.39, Anthony Murphy 149th 54.41, Joan Gouldthorpe 161st, 56.45, Joanne Malcolmsom 164th, 56.50, Dave Maudsley  165th, 56.52, Anees Shaikh 181st, 58.17, Jenny Fairclough 183rd, 58.23, Vicky Gore 189th, 59.53, Roger Johnson 195th, 61.01, Angela Brooks 204th, 62.09, Damian Clapham 208th , 62.09, Ramona Mulligan 221st, 71.53 and Lydia Plackett 222nd, 72.28.

The third event was the annual Welcome Tavern 10k on Sunday morning. Only six from the club here. David Orritt was 35th in 47.52. John Wiseman 44th, 49.16, Michael Coupland 69th, 54.29, Emma Johnson 71st, 55.26, Vicky Gore in a PB 79th, 57.50 and Dave Aspin 87th, 65.52.

There were 2 at the Blackpool Airshow 10k, Damian Russell and Colin Manning but at the time of writing the results are not available.

As well as all of this there were also 34 club members running with several others giving there time to marshal at the local parkruns and good turnouts at the various club training options during the week.
