The title of Inter Club Fell ladies champions 2014 has been successfully achieved by the senior ladies of Red Rose Road Runners. A series of four Inter Club fell races held every month from May through to August saw a nervous but strong ladies team take on the first of the fell challenges of Great Hameldon in East Lancashire. Five stalwart ladies, Margaret Lupton, Paula Plowman, Debbie Porter, Sally Cape and Pita Oates kick started the series by taking first place. The second challenge at Aggie’s Staircase again in East Lancashire saw the ladies team comfortably finish in second position leaving some further pushing to be done at the third event Warton’s Crag in North Lancashire. This wet, misty and miserable event saw the ladies team securing a first finish and leaving a point differential that other teams would have been unable to catch, despite such challenging conditions. Finally, Harrock Hill in West Lancashire left the Red Rose Ladies with a less pressured job to do and coming in as first ladies for the event really became the icing on the cake in rounding off a successful Fell racing season for the Red Rose Ladies.
The Hilton 10k was part of the race calendar for David Orritt with a finishing time of 48.15, Emma Johnson (60.56) and Lydia Drain (63.14). The Hilton Half marathon was completed by Janice Johnston in an encouraging time of 2.12.03 with Keith O’Brien and Judith Cook running together in a time of 2.49.07.
The inaugural Red Rose Sports day took place at the UClan athletics track with a great turnout of runners of all ages. Serious competition was evenly mixed with great fun in track distances of 1500m, 800m and 100m along with wheelbarrow and egg and spoon races. The success of the event will surely make this an annual event in the future.
