Starting in the village of Haworth, the Yorkshireman Half Marathon (14.5 miles) covers open moorland and the highest point in West Yorkshire. The route is partially flagged but the wise competitor will have recced the course prior to the event. Ben Donoghue finished first for Red Rose in a time of 2.10.54 with Dave Maudsley 2.13.47 and Frank Nightingale 2.17.58 performing brilliantly. Janine Needham had a great run (2.21.18) to be 14th lady overall.
Times were relatively unimportant for this off road course and completion was the criteria for success. All the runners gained a great deal of satisfaction on finishing and representing the club in a very tough event. Rob Mather ran well for 2.44.58 followed soon after by Paula Plowman in 2.47.14. Next came Julie Thorley and Debbie Porter who completed the course together in 2.51.06 and John Plowman scraping in under three hours with 2.59.48. Sal Cape ran a very satisfying 3.15.00 with V70 George Fletcher running an outstanding 3.26.00 as one of only three in the age group. Pita Oates and Shane Cliffe motivated each other throughout the race to finish together in 3.27.16. Jim Robinson finished well in 3.31.05 followed by the ever cheerful Martin Simpson in 3.44.05 and Wendy Ward in 3.45.41.
