Finty Royle made an impressive debut in the Girls Under 13 race for Red Rose at the Mid Lancs cross country fixture at Wilson Playing Fields. Beginning conservatively she worked her way through the field before joining the lead runners. She finally finished in an excellent 7th place in 10.39. Alice Lodge ran well in the U11 race finishing in 10.17.
A great turnout of senior runners saw 14 ladies tackle the 6k race. Paula Plowman showed her power in the final part of the race to be home first for the club in a time of 31.12 with a great run from Alicia Johnstone in a time of 31.43 narrowly beating Margaret Lupton who finished in 31.53.

A team of 20 men were lead home by Anthony Durkin who in spite of being spiked on the first lap had plenty left to finish the 6 country miles in 44.21. He was followed closely by Joe Swarbrick 44.24, and Alan Jolly 44.27.Stuart Cann narrowly beat Ken Addison to the line with times of 45.01 and 45.07.Phil Butler,45.55, and Phil Davidson 47.24 emphasised the strength in depth of the V50’s in the club with us taking 2nd and 4th placed teams out of 19 teams.
More encouraging results came from new and older team members. Chris Brown 46.51, Dave Maudsley 47.52, Phil Dean 51.50, Jonathan Evans 52.20, Steve Worswick 52.58, John Wiseman 54.16, Rob Mather 54.20, Ben Donoghue 55.43, Martin Simpson 55.43, John Royle 55.53, Damien Russel 58.39, John Plowman 59.13, Andy Speer 59.47.
At the Fairclough 5 mile race six RR runners made the first 20, ensuring the men won the team prize. Ben Donoghue was well placed in 5th in a time of 29.57 with Ken Addison awarded 1st V50 with a time of 30.48 in 8th place. In 9th Jose Pinon Shaw ran 31.29 closely followed by Stuart Cann in 32.07. Reliable Steve Whitney finished 15th in 32.26 and Richard Oakley ran 33.40 to be 4th V60 in a very competitive category. More prizes came with Carol Douglass winning the F60 in 40.23 and Evelyn Elkington first F70 in 53.20. At the Accrington 10k William Nelson ran the undulating course in 56.42, Jim Robinson 58.06, and Dave Aspin 67.11.
Cuerden Valley Parkrun continues to be very popular and PB’s were achieved by Daniel Hughes 19.34, Michael Hogarth 29.00 and Carol Heaton 33.03.
