Red Rose Runners were present at several races this weekend. Some keen ones were running in two and even three events. The Parkruns were attended by the early birds, some of whom went off to the Wesham 10k where 28 RRR competed. Ben Donoghue competed well at the sharp end to take 14th place in 36.52 with Jose Pinon Shaw finishing next in 39.18. Dave Brunton ran a very respectable 40.44 followed by John Naylor finishing in 41.46, the first of his two PB’s in the weekend. Margaret Lodge was first RR lady in 48.48, Carol Douglass ran 51.29 to be first in her vet class. Yvonne Johnson claimed first F55 in 53.01 and George Fletcher was first V70 in 54.37. More success came with Vicky Gore beating her PB by about half a minute with a time of 57.24. Lydia Plackett was winner of the F60 prize with a time of 69.50. Other times were D. Maudsley 42.05, A.Stell 44.01, D.Dyson 47.38, R.Mather 48.08, S.Taylor 48.41,M. Simpson 51.00, J.Plowman 51.57, E. Johnson 52.22, D.Porter 52.37. W. Ben Donoghue, Margaret Lupton, Martin Simpson and Pita Oates then found the energy to compete in the Liverpool cross country after a swift car journey to reach the start line.
Results for the cross country are incomplete at the time of writing but a great turnout from the club saw about 25 runners running in this highly competitive event. Our Under 11 girls competed well with Alice Lodge finishing in 9.59 and Daisy Royle in 10.57 to be placed mid way in a strong field of runners. Even more impressive was Finty Royle in the U13 race finishing in 12.48 to finish in the top half of nearly 100 runners.
At the Movember 10k held in Lytham, Peter O’Grady ran 47.23 with Marion O’Grady finishing her first proper 10k in 65.10. Matt Ashton also raced finishing in 49.49.
At the Best 5k event the fun run provided the chance for Sophie Hill and Damien Russell to race. Sophie ran a great time of 6.03 and Damien also ran brilliantly for a time of 10.07. In the 5k distance, Daniel Hughes ran an excellent 18.29 with John Naylor completing his second PB of the weekend in a time of 19.39. Steve Gore pushed the pace all the way to record 19.47 with Steve Murphy getting a time of 21.49. In 2nd place in the Ladies race was Joanne Malcolmson in a great time of 22.37. Yamin Faruki ran well for 24.15 closely followed by the very busy Margaret Lupton in 24.38. Anees Shaikh ran well for 25.52 with Alice Lodge showing her strength in a time of 26.44 to take the ladies team prize with Joanne Malcolmson and Margaret Lupton.
