The latest Mid Lancs Cross Country event was held at Townley Park Burnley and in spite of appalling weather forecasts and conditions on the course, Red Rose still managed to a great turnout. Alice Lodge (9.36) and Daisy Royle (10.23) showed their grit and fighting spirit to continue their 100% attendance at this season’s fixtures in the under 11’s category.
Ethan Hodgkinson came up against a strong field in the Under 17 race recording a time of 24.45 for the 6K distance. In the Ladies’ race over 6K Paula Plowman lead the way home in 27.14 with Margaret Lupton on her heels in a time of 27.25. 18 RR ladies all competed valiantly in the windy conditions and as ever were there to cheer the Men’s team on in the later race.

A great run from Dan Hughes saw him home first for the Red Rose men over the 10k course in a time of 38.37 with an equally fine performance from Alan Jolly in 38.46.Duncan Anderson did well to stay under 40 minutes in a time of 39.40. Ken Addison 40.10, Stuart Cann 41.20 and Phil Davidson 42.43 made up the V50 team to be an excellent 2nd place. The next three runners, Frank Nightingale 42.58, Dave Maudsley 43.28, Phil Butler 43.58 made up another V50 team to be placed 11th out of the 20 teams. Other results. The ever popular Garstang 10k attracted a field of 483 runners. Dave Brunton took on the demanding course in the windy conditions to be first RR in 41.32 with a good run from Andrew Stell next in 43.38. Janine Needham was next in with a time of 45.19 to be 18th lady and 4th in her category. The next three runners may discuss their times at length but the results record David Dyson crossing the line before Damien Russell and John Wiseman, althought chip timing may change the order of merit. Andrew Hall wasn’t far behind, finishing in 47.59. David Orritt had a good run with 48.21 and Matt Ashton broke 50 minutes in 49.29. Carol Douglass ran an impressive 51.10 to be first FV65 with Sarah Hall completing the ladies line up in 51.35. Completing a strong presence of Red Rose William Nelson ran 53.28,Mike Jeffryes 53.54,David Wilkinson 57.50 and Dave Aspin 64.31.
