Free meat and potato pie, mushy peas and gravy at the finish of the Muddy Bottoms 9 and 17 mile event seem to have been the highlight for many of the participants of this gruelling event. Pouring rain, howling wind and stinking mud were all made bearable because of the fantastic running company, jovial organisers and friendly locals. Those who had time to look around them whilst navigating , would have seen the magnificent viaduct, the meandering river and cascading waterfall.

Dave Bottomley and Anthony Rushe finished in 8th and 9th posiitons in the 9 mile event with a time of 1.32.59. Joan Gouldthorpe, Ray Taylor and Jim Robinson worked well  together  finishing in 2.13.45 and Allan Howard and Mike Jeffryes finished  in 2.27.51.

Steve Woodruffe followed up his Parkrun PB with a ‘win’ in the17 mile event in 2.46.49. No official  times available.ish and the goody bag that had a tee shirt, hat, gloves, socks, flannel (really!) and bottle of water..

The second Ron Hill Accrington 10k was run in very wet conditions. The first half of the course tests the mental and physical strength of the runners as the hill goes on and on. However, Red Rose were well represented by seven runners. Phil Davidson tested his new style kit and came home in 43.26 as 3rd V50. Mark McCrea just edged the battle with Andrew Stell by 7 seconds with a time of 44.28. Stuart Taylor was well placed with 48.11. For the ladies, Vicky Gore finished strongly in 55.54 followed by Louise Walsh,62.44, and Sarah Haslam 65.06.

The Preston parkrun provided the chance for some quick 5k times. Steve Woodruffe  impressed with 19.38, and Damien Russell 22.54, and Alice Hartley 25.39 improved their PB’s.
