Alan Jolly took on the Cheshire Sandstone Trail race over 34 miles organised by Helsby Running Club. In anticipation of his 50th birthday he set out to match the over 50’s course record. After much rain the tough course was very muddy with stiles and 4000ft of climb. Unfortunately, he was 2 minutes out, finishing in 17th in 5:26 but laid to rest last year’s time of 8:13 when he ran out of fuel.
27 Red Rose runners had a reat day out at the Staveley Trail Race Day. Starting and finishing at Staveley Recreation Ground, the 10km Kentmere Trail Run and 17km Kentmere Trail Race follow well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of most of the southern Lakeland fells. The trail climbs out from Staveley above the Kentmere valley, before returning along the valley itself past idyllic tarns and through ancient woodland, climbing Reston Scar before the descent back into Staveley village.
