Finty Royle U16 winner.

The Grasmere Gallop 5.7k is a challenging `fun’ run. Initially it takes the same route out of Grasmere as the 10k, but on reaching Deer Bolts Wood it descends to the Grasmere shoreline, and then returns to the village of Grasmere, finishing on the sports field for a grandstand finish. Finty Royle had a great race finishing second, and first girl U16 in a time of 23.06. All the Juniors did brilliantly as this is a long distance for their age group.

Described as `a perfect 10` the Grasmere Gallop 10k Trail Run takes in some of the most beautiful landscape in the country, the Vale of Grasmere and Rydal, the place that inspired the foundation of the National Trust.

The Grasmere Gallop 17km Trail Race takes in what is arguably some of the most beautiful landscape in the world; Loughrigg Terrace, Loughrigg Fell and Loughrigg Tarn, then returning to the village via the jewels of Rydal Water and Grasmere lake.

The Lakeland Trails Marathon takes in a complete circuit of Coniston Water along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways. Taking in the idyllic beauty spot of Tarn Hows, and the elevated Beacon Tarn, the whole course gives panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks. Debbie Porter was running her very first marathon and had a great run finishing in 5.27.25. More experienced Dave Brunton finished in a creditable 4.35.47; 24 minutes faster than last year.

For those wanting a shorter option, there was the Lakeland Trails Half Marathon race and challenge events. Jim Nicholson and Andrew Christie impressed with times of 1.35.16 and 1.35.37. Sam Harrison was only just behind in another great time of 1.37.08. Richard Ward went under 2 hours with 1.58.34. Rob Mather finished in 2.31.16.

At the Morecambe 10 k Jose Pinon Shaw took 2nd V45 in a time of 39.46, Claire Bunce took a top ten place in the ladies section in 42.12. Simon Houghton ran well with a time of 43.36. Jill Jefferson was first F55 in 44.49 and Dave Aspin completed the course in 66.08.

In the first Badger Run at Cuerden Valley, Steve Woodruffe ran strongly to take first V50 in 41.30, Stuart Cann was 3rd V50 in 42.59. Carol Douglass was first F65 in 55.14 and David Anson was 2nd V65 in 59.43. 27 Red Rose had a great presence at the race with 27 members taking part. Ruth Travis ran her first race in a Red Rose vest in the Bolton Hill Marathon in a time of 4:54:07, a really tough but enjoyable course round Winter Hill, Rivington, White Coppice and Anglezarke.
