Being only a mile-ish from my house, it would have been churlish to avoid this one. Also the guaranteed high Red Rose turnout was another reason to attend.
A rousing rendition of Happy Birthday for Joe Swarbrick before the start was led by Stuart Cann.
The conditions were very mild with little wind. Great for running. A small loop, then a fast section down to the Ribble and through Avenham park. My initial intention to ‘take it easy’ took a back seat on this section and catching Chris Brown kept me going until a comfort break on 6k put me back behind John Wiseman. All uphill back to Todd Lane and then a short section to the finish. All in all a great race and a great turnout with some team and individual prizes.
It was great to meet some new members as well on their first Red Rose 10k. Fantastic support on the route as well from Neil McDonald, Cath Newton and Matt, Marc McCrea, Gareth Fairey, Steve Taylor and others.
