The big Red Rose Road Runners event this weekend was the annual Worden Park 10k. Just over 300 runners completed the race including 46 from the club and as many fulfilling the roles necessary for a successful organisation of a race. The weather was kind to us and the detailed planning of the event by Paula Plowman and her trusted helpers was very well received by the visiting runners.
Simon Croft was 4th overall in 36.33, Paul Duffell was 7th in 37.56 and a fight for the line between Alex Venables and Ken Addison saw them both home in 39.20 for 12 and 13th place. In the women’s race Carla Davies was 2nd in a great time of 43.56 Emma Plant was 6th in 47.38 and Claire Shaw 7th in an excellent PB of 48.11. All these performances resulted in the first team prizes.
Individual prizes also went to V50 Stephen Woodruffe, 41.52, V60 Ken Addison, 39.20, F45 Gail Hoyle 50.47,F75 Evelyn Elkington 70.30 and V75 Bernard Elkington 85.48 also ensuring the safe return of the final runners. Full results at www.ukroadraces.info.
In the Fun Run Luke Duffel was first across the line in a great time of 5.26. In 5th place was Sophie Hill in 6.28. Emily Ingham was 9th in 6.53. All runners performed brilliantly. Lucie Clipston 7.03, Ruby Lennighan 7.16, Abi Duffel 7.25, Judi Ingham 8.16, Lexi Colquhoun 8.40, Briar Hargreaves 9.11, Graham Roberts 12.19, Oliver Roberts 12.19.
A small group tackled the Last drop Loop Fell Race covering 5.8 miles of Pennine moorland. The team consisted of Barry Wheeler, Mark McCrea, Pita Oates, Paula Plowman, Ben Donoghue and Debbie Porter. The team were delighted with Debbie’s position of 2nd F40.
Thanks are due to Pete O’Grady who has successfully coached his fifth group of beginners so that they were all able to complete the Preston Parkrun. In a brilliant show of encouragement, many club members turned out to accompany the new runners in their first big running challenge. Also at Preston Lisa Bolton ran her 50th parkrun and achieved a shiny new PB of 22.55. Others who had something to celebrate were Lee Parker 25.22, Graham Roberts 26.29, Hannah Unwin 27.40, Graham Wilkinson 27.40, Megan Gore 33.45, Susan Heatley 34.06, and Andy Clipston 41.07.
Maureen Laney travelled to Haigh Hall to run the Parkrun and ran an impressive 22.10 to be first lady and achieved a fantastic age grade of 88.8%.
