Red Rose Road Runner Dave Brunton took on a massive challenge this weekend. His challenge was complete the Thames Path 100 mile event without sleep. Raising money for Galloway’s Society for the Blind and magnificently supported by wife Jackie and daughter Jess Dave had to battle the elements all day and night. A brilliant effort brought him over the line in 23 hours and 11 minutes raising over £300 in the process.
The Sherriff 10k attracted a group of Red Rose, who achieved well earned success over an excellent undulating course in chilly, damp conditions. Janine Needham was delighted to be second woman home in 44.40 and Richard Maughan ran well enough for a top ten place in 39.51. Joe Swarbrick was first V60 in 40.13 and 12th place. Mark Willett was closing in in the later stages and finished 13th in 4027.Liam Hooton posted yet another PB of 43.54. Ian Wharton, 46.23, made a real contribution to the team effort (see blog) . John Wiseman was home in 47.11. Carol Douglass finished as first F70 in 52.32 with Debbie Porter on her heels in 52.52. Austin Trelfa and David Watson experienced the race for the first time finishing in 55.02 and 55.35. Both Women and Men’s teams won 2nd team prizes.
The Cake Race is a tough 10 mile fell race with 1,500ft ascent starting from Diggle, Oldham and 29 Red Rose Road Runners entered .It’s an interesting moorland course with as much cake as you like to eat at the end. What’s not to like? All Runners are invited to bring a cake which will be entered into the cake contest. The prizes for best tasting and best decorated were won by Jenny Fairclough and Aimee Midgley. The Yarrow River Bluebell 10k trail run was enjoyed by a ‘mad’ contingent. It was very muddy, very cold and had two freezing river crossings. RESULTS Alison Mercer 1.06.27, Steve Taylor 1.14.27, Sarah Haslam 1.15.01, Jenny Bradley 1.23.01, Wendy Ward 1.23.01, Nicola Parkinson 1.23.01, Ramona Mulligan 1.43.24.
Ken Addison took on the Keswick Half Marathon in difficult conditions. His time of 1.30.36 won him the first V60 prize in a hard fought race finishing in 25th position, only one place ahead of the next V60.
Andy Birkbeck ran as a Red Rose for the first time at the Liverpool Sporting 10k. He and Sharon ran 59.56. Pete O’Grady travelled back to his roots to compete in the Milton Keynes Half and enjoyed the occasion.s
A fantastic 306 runners ran the Avenham 5k with 48 RRRR in the field as well as the loud and proud supporters. Stuart Cann was 16th overall and first V50. All results available on ukroadraces facebook page.
In the Fun Run, Red Rose was well represented. Martha Raynor came 6th in 5.48 with Grace Raynor in 9th in 5.52. Lucie Cipston came in 12th in 6.05. In 16th place Lily Raynor ran 6.39. Other excellent performances came from Archie Finch 7.20, Briar Hargreaves 7.32, Toby Russell 7.43, Damien Russell 7.49, Todd Butterworth 7.49, Billy Butterworth 7.51, Evie Houghton 7.51, Sophie Bell 8.34, Eric Ward 9.22 India Ward 9.22, Nicola Bentley 11.34, Gina Biggs 11.34.
And finally, Pita Oates and Mark McCrea did the great Hambledon Fell Race but not before Mark went shopping !
Ruth Travis completed the West Highland Way Ultra -53 miles in a brilliant time of 13 hours 32 minutes.
Debbie Porter completed the Cake Race in 1.53.00 and then ate a lot of cake.
Kate Clipston was a part of the ‘gang of fou’r who completed the Bluebell Trail in 1.23.01.
Oh, and Leicester have just won the Premiership!
