On the same day that many Red Rosers did the Mad Cow 10k, myself and 2 friends had a long standing commitment to do the Brathay Windermere Half. The half is a new event this year with the full marathon in its 10th year. As expected the course was somewhat undulating (to say the least) and it was a very warm and humid weekend, even up in the Lakes. The route is common with the marathon for 6/7 miles and then doubles back passing through Hawkshead and other smaller villages.
I was pleased with my 1.43.21 given the conditions. Janine – as expected – stormed it in 1.31.28 despite a post-London hip injury (1st FV45, 4th female overall!) and Ian managed to get home under 2 hours which was his target.
A great day in lovely surroundings and some great pop up stalls for food and refreshments afterwards.
The staggered start timing meant that we were able to watch the 10 in 10 finishers followed by the marathon finishers. I saw just one other RRRR vest on the course (Janet Tolson) we said hello at the start line! Superb !
