The main event for Red Rose Road Runners was the 20 Barriers Fell race at Carnforth. A turnout of 38 runners for a mid week fixture is very impressive. Four runners in the top ten proves the quality of runner in the club. Duncan Anderson was 4th in 34.16, Dan Hughes 6th in 35.14, James Simon 9th in 36.08 and John Shepherd 10th in 36.17 and also first V50. For the ladies team Carla Davies finished in 42.12, Claire Shaw 45.46, Emma Plant 46.03 and Maureen Laney 47.37 to be first FV60. The evergreen George Fletcher finished in 54.47 to be first M70. Four of our enthusiastic ladies took on the challenge of the Tour of Merseyside which consisted of six races in seven days covering a total of 52 miles in all. Lynn Melvin and Mary Conway finished the gruelling series as 5th and 6th in their age group. Also competing and completing the challenge were Wendy Ward and Tracy Woods.
The second of the Badger Run 10k races at Cuerden Valley took place on Thursday in warm and, in places, slippery conditions over a course which had its fair share of rain throughout the day. Karl Hodgson secured 10th place overall with a time of 41.13 with Joe Swarbrick 13th and first V60 in a time of 42.35.Mike Hall finished in 44.35 with Dave Tolson as our fourth counter in 45.57 and 2nd V55. The team were placed third overall. Jon Royle continued his return with a time of 48.38 and Ray Taylor took the V65 prize with a time of 48.42. The ladies also took third team prize led by Alison Parkinson in 51.15 who also won the individual prize for F50. Emma Plant was close behind taking the female junior prize in 51.49. Vicky Gore was our third counter in a time of 54.44 and Yvonne Johnson completed the team in 56.34 to take the F55 prize. The Pilling 10k is proving to be a popular race. John Shepherd flew round the course finishing in second place in great time of 36.22. Barry Wheeler also had an excellent run to be 19th in 41.18. Phil Butler impressed with a time of 42.06 with Ray Taylor running for the second time that day finishing in 45.39. Carole Douglass took the first F70 prize in 52.11 and Susan Heatley completed the team in 69.36.
The Manchester 10k took place in uncomfortable heat which seemed to affect the runners. Alex Venables ran 39.47 and Mark Willett finished in 42.09. Simon Croft had more success at the Lytham Carnival 5k with a 3rd place finish in a great time of 17.29 with Natalie Moore also competing. Taz Wolstencroft took on the mighty Hendon Brook 13.5 miles finishing in a fine time of 2.02.18.
Parkrun PB’s were posted by Sarah Runcie 27.29 and Gina Chelton 28.28 at Preston. Steven Willetts 20.21 and Judi Ingham 28.34 at Cuerden Valley and Vicky Gore at Lytham in 25.29.
