The latest Inter Club race was hosted by Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club in Astley Park. Red Rose had a very successful evening with about 90 members participating. In the open race, Red Rose came second to Preston Harriers. The Womens’ team was fourth out of seven teams. The F40 team had more success taking second place. The Vets team finished fourth with the Vet 50 and Vet 60 teams both taking first place. The club find themselves in a strong position going into the final race at Worden Park in September. Ruth Travis and Debbie Porter ran the Lowther Trail Half Marathon in a time of 2:42. The race started in the grounds of Lowther Park,near Shap, with Lowther Castle as a dramatic background. The terrain was mixed – trail, road and grass and also included crossing the shin deep River Lowther at mile 8 (thankfully a guide rope was provided). Runners thoroughly enjoyed this nice low key, well marked and marshalled event with only 135 entrants.
The popular Saturday evening Catforth 5k attracted 13 Red Rose Runners. In 10th place Karl Hodgson ran a brilliant 17.31 with a great time of 20.07 being posted by Andy Birkbeck in 33rd place. Ray Taylor showed his consistency with another V65 win in 21.37 followed by Mark McCrea in 22.02. Carol Douglass (F70) ran a superb 24.57. Damian Clapham ran an encouraging 25.49 with another good performance from Alison Mercer in 26.41. First F65 was Joan Gouldthorpe in 27.00. Davina Bowling ran 27.25 in front of Sarah Haslam who finished in 28.30. Sharon Birkbeck ran 30.41 with Amanda George in 33.16 and Arthur Green 33.22.
At Cuerden Valley parkrun a large field of over 250 showed up to enjoy this great event. PB’s were posted by Gareth Fairey in 26.50 and Louise Withnell in 32.37.In second place Daniel Hughes finished in 19.24.
