Last weekend surely demonstrates that Red Rose Road Runners is a club for all with 3 very different activities taking place.
Perhaps most importantly for the club Saturday morning saw the latest bunch of graduations from our beginners group.
6 new beginners successfully completed the Preston parkrun after carefully building up to it over the previous 10 weeks under the guidance of the club’s beginner guru Pete O’Grady. Club members are always on hand giving support and encouragement to the beginners, especially on graduation day.
Pete runs these groups several times a year and anyone is welcome to come along and give running a try.
The big racing event of the weekend was The Derwentwater 10 mile race. This is a classic on the race calendar and is a well liked race due to the scenic and testing route around the lake. This year the weather was not too kind but this did not deter the 70 Red Rose runners in a field of 476 finishers. The race this year was also the final event in the club’s annual club championship.
Simon Croft and Duncan Anderson went head to head to decide the winner of the championship this year. Simon came out ahead in 14th with a time of 60.43. Duncan was close behind though, 15th 60.53.
Red Rose had 2 prize winners on the day. Ken Addison was 1st v60, 32nd 64.57 and Joan Gouldthorpe was 1st lady v65 in 283rd 87.04.
A full list of results is available on the clubs Facebook page or Keswick AC website.
The weekend saw a new activity for the club. A fell running course was held in the Lake District. This was very well received by those taking part and there seems to be great demand for this to be a regular part of the club’s calendar. Special thanks go to those who organised this event.
One special performance that deserves a mention was the parkrun of Junior lady 11 to 14 Finty Royle at Bushy Park. Finty ran 19.45 to not only be break the 20 Barrier but was 1st lady overall. A star in the making.
As usual all the weekend parkrun stats can be found on their website.
