Weekly News – 14-11-16

This week saw Red Rose take on yet more extreme and varied challenges.
Red Rose Runners are taking to multi day marathons and ultra distance runs in ever greater numbers.
The Hell of a Hill Marathon races took place on the hills around Rivington between Wednesday and Sunday. John Naylor is becoming a specialist at this form of racing and took part in race 1 and race 5 along with Anthony Barnes. In race 1 John was 6th over the line with a time of 4hr 8mins 9sec while Anthony came home 30th 5 38 07 in race 5 John found more speed and achieved 2nd in 3 52 01 with Anthony 28th 5 48 42. Joining John and Anthony in race 1 were Stephen Tyson 7th 4 11 31. In race 5 the club had 5 competitors. Gareth Bell 8th 4 24 17, Gina Biggs 54th 7 57 24, and Nicki Bentley 7 57 24 making up the squad. Tough stuff.
The big local event of the weekend was the Windmill 10k with a field of over 900.
Red Rose finishers were Simon Croft, with another top performance, 2nd, Alex Venables, returning to a bit of good form, 6th, Andy Martin 42nd, Kristian Lowe 43rd, Chris Brown 73rd, Vicky Gore 215th, Matt Ashton 259th, Graham Roberts 266th, Natalie Moore 267th, Melanie Lowe 369th, Helen Greenhalgh 425th, Nicola Patterson 465th, Louise Withnell 532nd, Angie Fox-Lane 548th, Carole Williams 589th, Louise Davitt 621st, Lisa Bolton 671st, and Jackie Brunton 692nd.
Saturday saw the running of the fast Cheshire 10k.
4 Red Rosers here. Mark Billington 171st 41.24, Stephen Walker, happy with a pb, 787th 54.43, Sharon Birkdale 1032nd 59.25 and Daniella Birkdale 1252nd 66.20.
Another local race run on Sunday was the Catforth 5k. Simon Robinson ran well for 7th place in 18.25 followed by Lee Quibbell 14th and Warren Crook 16th winning the mens team prize. Others running were Steve Blaydon 17th, Mark Billington, running his second race of the weekend, 18th while Richard Oakley was 1st v60 and Davina Bowling 1st lady v65.
3 runners took up Trail Betws Challenge. Phil Davison ran the Conwy parkrun, with several others from the club, in the morning in Roman centurian gear to celebrate his 100th run followed by a 43rd place 49.28 in the challenge
Mary Conway finished in 230th 69.17, Wendy Ward 276th 87.12.
Adding to the variety of racing were Barry Wheeler and Ben Donoghue who race bicycles in the Runners v Cyclists race organised by Bingley Harriers. It was nip and tuck between the 2 runners with Barry pipping Ben by a few seconds on the line.
Once again there were many club runners participating and marshalling at the Saturday morning parkruns. All the details are on the excellent parkrun website.
