A great weekend’s running for Red Rose included The Longridge 7, the Mytholmroyd Fell race, the Petzl Nightrun at Grizedale and even the Lanzarote Half Marathon.

At Longridge, 38 Red Rose took on the Christmas Pudding run over the ever challenging course. Simon Croft took an impressive fifth place in a time of 41.41. Ken Addison had another great run in the V60 category, comfortably winning in a time of 45.36. Richard Maughan followed in 46.13 and 16 year old Jack Bretherton in 46.58 taking a well-deserved Junior prize. Ray Taylor won the Vet 65 prize by a seven minute margin in a time of 52.07. Jill Jefferson lead our ladies home in a time of 52.46 also winning the F55 prize. A strong group of women came close to the hour with Anneke Crosby finishing in 60.23, Louise McKenna in 60.42, Alison Parkinson 61.06 and L. Withnell 61.11. Another close contest saw Simon Robinson finish in 47.30,John Naylor 47.46, Kristian Lowe 47.58. Other finishers were Mark Billington 51.03,Doug Bryden 55.30,David Bayliss 58.32, John Wiseman 59.17, Bernard Mitchell 59.46,Natalie Moore 62.40,Wayne Hope 64.18, Gareth Fairey 65.22,Michael Hogarth 65.29, Faisal Ali 66.06, Melanie Lowe 66.06, Sam Sleddon 66.07, Tobin Raynor 66.19, Karen Clark 68.10, Judi Higham 68.50, Cat Holden 68.52, Helen Greenhalgh 70.27,Shane Collins 70.45,Steve Taylor 72.38,Louise Withnell 64.12, Nicola Patterson 64.12,Diane Hill 79.50, Nikki Bentley80.15, Chris Clark 81.36, Paula Cherry 85.36.

The final Fell Championship took place at Mytholmroyd over 6 miles and 1640 feet of climb. Barry Wheeler finished the season well with a time of 61.30. Exactly two minutes later Frank Nightingale crossed the line hounded by Phil Butler who finished in 63.37. Andrew Christie finished in 66.09 in front of the very experienced Fred Lynch who finished in 70.41. Carla Davies was the ninth lady home in 73.33.Phil Davidson ran 74.08 to complete an excellent achievement of finishing all eight Fell Championship runs in spite of a serious injury sustained in June 2015.Paula Plowman ran well finishing in 80.47 followed by Claire Shaw and Debbie Porter in times of 90.44 and 90.49. Alison Mercer completed the team finishing in 94.02.

Mary Conway braved the Petzl Nightrun at Grizedale finishing the mixed terrain run in 1.07.36. In warmer climes, Sharon and Andy Birkbeck celebrated finishing the Lanzarote Half Marathon and nearer home Kate Clipston ran a PB at the Cuerden Valley Parkrun in 25.06 and John Naylor clocked 19.27 at Preston.
