Introduction – Dave Hindle

My Name is Dave Hindle and I am a 63 years young newbie to Red Rose Road Runners. I have exercised most of my life but fallen into the trap a number of times of having gaps through too much focus on work. I did the Great North Run way back in 1986 and did not do any races then until 2010 when I focused again, doing a number of 10ks with my family and another two half marathons, usually to fundraise for charities.

Then in June last year one of my grandsons laid out the facts, “grandad you are fat and you used to do so much running!” That was it , Fitbit was ordered and personal trainer sessions booked and I tried running to see if I could still run and enjoy it and I did, so I targeted a 10k at Southport and aimed to try to beat the hour as I had always done and I did. I was hooked again and booked more.

I always noticed how much fun Red Rose Road Runners seem to have before and after each race, even smiling after the torture of Longridge 7 mile Christmas Pudding race with its 4 miles of inclines. So after gradually increasing mileage the last quarter of 2016, I thought “go on give it a go.” I have set as my resolution to run 100 miles in January, 1000 in 2017, to run everyday, also to actually do parkruns as well as the Sweatshop runs. As you can see once I set myself goals there are no half measures. The welcome I have received has been brilliant and I am making new friends already.

I have a good sense of humour and my claim to fame is winning the Weakest Link on TV. I have ordered my vest and when it does arrive will have Dave H on it. I feel a big sense of pride in the club already. I’m looking forward to the year ahead. May it be a happy and healthy one for everyone and successful for the club.
