Red Rose Road Runners

Introduction – Kathryn Abbott

Hi – I’m Kathryn and 2017 will be the year of my big 50th birthday. I live in Walton-Le-Dale and I recently joined the Red Rose Road Runners in November 2016. Just like Steve Gibson (the first club introduction posted earlier) I made a life changing decision back in February last year to give up smoking. In order to take my mind off the habit, I decided to try running. On my first run I managed a mile but I persevered and throughout the spring and summer, I steadily increased my distance and got into a routine of doing 3 runs a week – varying distances between 3 and 7 miles. I started to thoroughly enjoy my new hobby and I’m proud that I’ve switched a bad addiction to a GREAT addiction. I have even taken my running shoes with me on my travels and I’ve done runs in Amsterdam, Brussels, Spain and Cyprus. I have also run the Guild Wheel in 3 separate sections.
I decided to join the club so I wouldn’t be running alone on cold dark nights. I’ve loved the runs out from the Poachers on Thursday evenings and the other members are certainly very friendly and supportive. On the 29th January, my Red Rose vest will be out for its maiden run. I’ve entered my first ever race – the Hunters 10k. If there are any other Red Rose runners there, please cheer me on and shout out ‘Come On Kathryn’

Next step – I’m also going to follow option 2 and get my name printed on my shirt

Just love running
Kathryn
