Over 50 Red Rose Road Runners turned out for the popular Hunters’10k. Early morning frost and low temperatures were a slight concern for the organisers but by 11.00 the course was ready for the 300 runners. The star performer for Red Rose was Janine Needham who came second in the women’s race in a great time of 41.56. That performance along with excellent runs from Jill Jefferson, F55 winner in 43.58 and Olivia Wiggans ,44.26, ensured the Team prize for the club. Leane Finch was also amongst the prizes with a time of 52.12 to take the F35 category. Even more success came with Carol Douglass, F70, in 51.56, Joan Gouldthorpe , F65,in 52.33,and Evelyn Elkington F80 in 68.56.

The first Red Rose man was David Parkinson just getting the better of Alex Venables (37.37) and winning the V50 prize in 37.22. Joe Swarbrick took the V60 prize in a time of 38.46. Ray Taylor won the V65 prize with a time of 43.42, more than 4 minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Bernard Elkington was the only V80 and performed the role of backmarker and inspiration for the less experienced runners. Apart from the great haul of prizes there were many PB’s achieved through cooperative group running and encouragement. Gary Corcoran broke 40 minutes with the help of Stuart Cann, Lee Lawrenson improved his time by 5 minutes with the help of Andy Hale and Steve Boardman. Claire Shaw 50.22, Brent Whybro 50.26 and Matt Ashton50.31 helped each other with another close knit pack of Wendy Rogerson 56.12, Nicola Patterson56.13, and Louise Withnell 56.14. A PB. of 57.07 by Katie Johnson was achieved with the help of Michelle Houghton Andrea Davison and Kathryn Abbott proving that the Red Rose way is best!

A brilliant run from Simon Croft at the St Anne’s 10 mile race saw him run 57.01 and take second place. Andrew Christie also ran an excellent time of 64.13. Dave Brunton finished in 68.44 followed by Mark Willett in 71.46. Natalie Moore crowned her day with a great PB of 86.05 and Faisal Ali finished in 88.56.

Parkrun PB’s at Cuerden Valley were achieved by Nicola Hughes 24.58, and Mac McCormack 33.24. At Preston John Naylor ran 19.18, Stephen Walker 25.41, Gina Chelton 27.56 and Helen Clayton 38.20.
