Red Rose descended on the Valiant’s Half marathon in great numbers. 36 out of a field of 103 ensured they didn’t go unnoticed. Advertised as a flat rural route on quiet roads and lanes in the Wyre estuary, runners were met with strong winds and heavy rain. The Ladies team were victorious with Nicola Hughes(1.43.46) Alison Parkinson(1.47.32) a PB by 3 minutes and Anneke Crosby (1.49.01) taking first place. In 8thplace Sam Harrison finished in 1.24.05, in 12th Kristian Lowe ran well in 1.26.00. John Naylor continued his great form with a time of 1.27.42. Sub 90 minute times came from Gary Corcoran,1.28.41 and Stuart Cann 1.29.31. A double act of Ben Donoghue and Barry Wheeler finished in 1.31.05. A strong run from Andy Birkbeck saw him finish in 1.34.59. Amongst the runners gaining new PB’s were Faisal Ali 1.54.56, Damian Clapham 1.55.04, Rob Mac Donald 1.56.35 making his Red Rose debut and Mary Conway 2.05.46. Results Stephen Poxon 1.40.57, Shane Cliffe 1.46.13, Paula Plowman 1.49.14, Richard Field 1.50.28, Aimee Grime 1.50.30, Wayne Hope 1.53.34, Emily Ingham 1.53.48, John Wiseman 1.54.10, Louise McKenna 1.54.46, Melanie Lowe 1.56.57, William Nelson 1.59.10, Martin Focot 1.59.40, Anees Shaikh 2.00.15, Claire Shaw 2.02.08. Alison Mercer 2.05.05, David Hindle 2.08.36, Judi Ingham 2.08.37, Sharon Birkbeck 2.12.50, Jenny Fairclough 2.13.40, Sally Cape 2.18.14, Sarah Haslam 2.27.40.

Alex Venables joined a sold out field at the Salford 10k where he met stiff competition. This brought the best out in him with a new PB of 36.33.

Phil Davidson chalked up a notable milestone, taking part in his 50th tourist Parkrun in Hanley, Nottingham with a time of 21.39. PB’s were achieved at Preston by Simon Robinson 18.55 and Davina Bowling 26.23. At Cuerden Valley Frank Nightingale ran 21.57 and Pauline Moorcroft 28.02.

At the Clitheroe Triathlon event consisting of a 400m swim, 30k bike and 8k run. The bike section took riders over Jeffrey Hill. Dave Raynor finished in 2.12.40, Ian Waddingham 2.17.09, Steve Taylor 2.49.46 and Mac McCormack, a week after his Rome marathon, 3.33.18.
