Not surprisingly we had a good turnout for the Cake Race where runners are invited to provide cake for the end of race celebration. At the Keswick Half Olivia Wiggans ran an excellent 1.45.41 followed by sub 2 hour performances from John Wiggans 1.53.46 and Ann Cleave 1.56.14. Mary Conway 2.30.18. Simon Gardner.
Mark Billington led Red Rose home at the 3 Bridges at Lancaster in 41.12 with Carol Douglass, first in her age group in 51.39. Emily Ingham 54.15, Kathryn Abbot 56.02 (PB),Judi Ingham 56.33, Bernard Elkington 1.21.23.
The Sherriff 10k attracted a bunch of Red Rosers with Ben Smithers finishing in 47.12, Lisa Bolton took first F35 in 48.10, Mick Braithwaite 48.15, John Wiseman 49.13, Ian Waddingham 49.58, Steve Murphy 50.25, Michael Coupeland 50.50,Louise McKenna 53.06, William Nelson 54.36, Wendy Rogerson 56.38, Louise Withnell 56.40, Nicola Patterson 56.42, Joanna Dobson 64.34, Andrea Davison 69.12, Katie Johnson 69.13, Ginette Philp 70.01.
At the MK Dons Running Festival, Jenny Bradley and Kate Clipston finished the 5k in 28.24 and then joined their team mates for the Half on Sunday. Lorna Taylor achieved a PB by 5 minutes with a time of 1.58.47. Pete O’Grady 2.00.03, Jenny Bradley 2.21.23, Kate Clipston 2.21.23 Steve Taylor 2.21.25 and Marion O’Grady 2.27.17.
At the Oswestry Half Marathon Andy Birkbeck came 9th in the V50 category with a time of 1.37.18 and Sharon Birkbeck completed the run in 2.14.49.
At Preston Parkrun Stephen Walker gained another PB with a time of 24.10. At Cuerden Valley along with wedding celebrations for Catherine Newton, further PB’s came from Pete Battersby 22.19, Davina Bowling 28.01, Paul Gardner 28.48, Katie Johnson 32.10.
The May Day, Avenham Park 5K and Fun Run proved extremely popular once again with many people praising the organisation and ‘feel good’ atmosphere. Red Rose were very well represented with many juniors participating.
