A dozen Red Roses made the short hop over the border into enemy territory (i.e. Yorkshire) to take on the mighty Pen Y Ghent fell race on Saturday (6.7 miles, 1600 ft). First up and down the mountain was James Simon well under the hour mark with 54:14. Andrew Christie did 1:02:38, Phil Butler 1:05:52, Frank Nightingale 1:07:25, Gary Corcoran 1;09:41, Andy Hale 1:10:22 and an injured Barry Wheeler in 1:24:23. Lynn Melvin was first Red Rose lady home in 1:22:31, then Paula Plowman 1:26:40, Sue Tongue did 1:30:32 and won V60 prize , Alison Mercer 1:30:32 and finally Ruth Travis brought up the rear in 1:34:25. A very tough but great day out with solid Red Rose support from Steve Taylor, Jenny Fairclough and Gary Mercer.
