Weekly Roundup 5 July 2017

I have been away this weekend and this is a rush job. Apologies to anyone who did something brilliant and hasn’t got a mention.

Red Rose was well represented at the Lakeland Ultra 55 km event. Sam Edwards ran brilliantly, finishing in 10.37.09. Mary Conway seemed to be as fresh at the finish as most people were at the start with another excellent performance in 10.50.42. James Butler conquered the distance in 11.11.55 and Ben Smithers running twice in the weekend finishing in 12.12.20.

In the Southport 10k Matthew Edgeley was our first runner home in 48.27 with Matt Ashton next in 51.44. David Bayliss clocked 50.20 with Ben Smithers fit enough to do 54.20 the day after doing 55k. Nikki Bentley finished in 70.53. In the Half Marathon Scott Jackson ran impressively in 1.36.43. Stuart Isherwood ran 1.45.24. Chris Corrigan beat the two hour barrier in 1.57.24 and just missing out were Ste Pickering in 2.00.37and Michael Jeffryes in 2.00.51. Allan Howard running on home ground ran 2.03.24. Joydip Majumder wasn’t far behind in 2.03.25. Steve Taylor crossed the line with Claire Shaw in 2.37.33. Jill Jefferson was our only runner at the tough Trawden 7 trail race and true to form came away with the FV55 prize in 57.42.

Around 100 Red Rose ran the local Lostock Hall Carnival 5k, a race with true PB potential. There were great performances throughout.

The Edgeworth Reservoir Half Marathon saw a small band of our women taking on the tough course. With Louise Withnell taking a hard tumble in the first stage of the race, the Red Rose family came to the rescue and the team of Pauline, Nicola, Wendy and Louise completed the course. (Sorry can’t find any times.)
