The latest Inter Club race was held at Astley Park, Chorley. In spite of it being holiday season, over 300 runners turned up to represent their clubs. Red Rose as ever had a huge turnout and claimed plenty of decent victories. Second place in the overall team race showed the potential of the club. The Vet 40 team took 3rd place with the ladies FV40 team also third and the Ladies open team 5th. The Vet 50 team continued their 100% record of wins led by Dave Parkinson and supported by Joe Swarbrick, Stu Cann and Ken Addison. The Vet 60 team of Joe Swarbrick, Ken Addison and Dave Hooton were clear winners and edged closer to the title. Nicola Hughes headed the ladies team in 16th place followed by Sam Edwards 19th, Ruth Travis 20th, Faron Jones 24th and Laura Houghton 29th. The FV40 team consisted of Ruth Travis 11th, Pauline Moorcroft 16th, Ann Cleave 17th, Kate Clipston 19th and Paula Plowman 20th.

Anneke Crosby was in great form for the Dalbeattie 10k claiming 4th prize in a time of 49.02 over a very hilly course, starting with a relentless 4 mile challenge.

At the very first Skatas Parkrun Lee Burton represented Red Rose with a time 29.20.

The highlight event of the weekend was the Lakeland 50 mile starting in the Pooley Bridge area and finishing in Coniston, Unbelievably we had six Red Rose finishers in an epic event. Starting at 11.30am on Saturday morning, there would be no rest for most of the runners until sunrise on Sunday morning. Their achievement of covering 50 miles with nearly 10,000 feet of ascent and 10000 more of descent, together with the darkness of night, fog and exhaustion is a story they can treasure for ever. Experienced Dave Brunton ran an unbelievable 10 hours 38 minutes, Stuart McNair finished in 12 hours 24 minutes. Glynis Leo was out on the course for 14 hours followed by Shane Cliffe in 15 hours 16 minutes. Pita Oates and Gareth Bell arrived over the line in 15 hours 54 minutes. A short report like this can’t do justice to the achievement. A brilliant blog from Gareth Bell is inspiring and well worth reading.

The new City of Preston 5 mile and 10 mile events took place on 13 August with a massive turnout from Red Rose. 10 ran the 5 mile race with Simon Croft 2nd in 27.12, Pete O’Grady 30th in 38.37 and Manolo Mendoza 41st in 40.45, taking the team prize for Red Rose. The 10 mile race attracted 35 from the club. Duncan Anderson was our first finisher in 58.32 in a time of 58.32. Pauline Moorcroft was our first lady home in 81.42 taking the FV 55 prize and Joan Gouldthorpe first FV65 in 92.16.

Further afield, about 20 more runners went to the Boulsworth Fell Race. Andrew Christie was well up with the leaders finishing in 30th in 50.32 but the performance of the day came from Carla Davies who finished in 53.03 to be third lady in spite of just returning to running after injury.

At the Black pool Airshow 10k David Parkinson was first V50 and Graham Roberts ran a new PB of 53.07.

All the results for these races have appeared on the Red Rose or UKroadraces .info facebook pages.
