Some extra news included from the weekend.

Red Rose Road Runners successfully hosted the first Mid Lancs Cross Country event of the 2017/18 season. With a host of excellent marshalls Red Rose still managed to send out great team. Carla Davies starred for the ladies team with 2nd place in a brilliant time of 21.57. She was joined by Janine Needham running 26.38 and Nicola Hughes 27.15 to secure 5th place in the team positions. A second team placed 14th with Sam Edwards running 30.27, Faron Jones 31.27 and Alison Mercer 34.23. Also running for Red Rose were Pita Oates 35.29, Amanda Cutler 35.56, Nicola Patterson 36.06, Sarah Haslam 37.26, Lisa Semley 38.27, Sharon Birkbeck 40.10 Emma Cowan 41.26 all completing the 5.5k course.

The Mens’ A and B teams were placed 7th and 13th over the 10k course.The Vet 40 team were 4th and V50 finished 5th.The Mens’ A team was made up of Dan Hughes 41.15, James Simon 44.46, Simon Robinson 44.54, Kristian Lowe 45.02, Richard Maughan 46.40, Paul Duffell 46.57. the B team comprised of Ken Addison 47.06, Lee Quibell 47.15, Gary Corcoran 47.31, Scott Jackson 48.00, Greth Case 48.00, Barry Wheeler 48.49. A further 15 runners showed an excellent presence at the race. P.Darwen 49.18, M.Hall 51.13, R.Field 51.17,M.McCrea 51.37, M.Mendoza 52.31, C.Patterson 54.52, A.Birkbeck 55.53, J.Royle 56.01, G.Concepcion 57.15, P.Cafferkey 58.13, R.Mather 59.32, M.Cowan 61.43, P.Gardner 66.03, M.Jeffryes 71.24,G.Fairey. In the Under 11’s races over a distance of 1.8km Nina Colquhoun represented Red Rose finishing in a time of 10.52 and Dylan Maughan ran the same distance in the boys’ race in 7.41.

A large group of our runners did the Stanley Park 10k. Janine Needham had brilliant run of 44.11 to be 2nd lady and first F40. Others ran amany were chasing PB’s. B.Smithers 44.59, N.Walkker 45.58, J.Butler 47.40, G.Turner 48.18, M.Braithwaite 48.24, L.Turner 58.28,T.Alami 60.07, J.Dobson 60.52, K.Day 62.07, T.Callaghan 63.23, 69.18, R.Watkinson 74.24.

Ruth Travis returned to her home town to run the Oldham Half. It provided an extremely hilly course with 1300 ft of elevation but she still manged a time of 1:56:01.

In the Manchester half, Rob Harrison led Red Rose home in 1.51.03, followed by Gina Chelton 2.00.38, James Rimmer 2.04.52, Esther Stanier 2.13.00, Colin Manning 2.27.00, Fiona Michelle 2.39.35, Sonja Mueller 2.39.54, Denise Fairhurst 2.56.44.

In the Helwith Bridge Duathlon near Settle the 4 mile run, 23 mile bike, 4 mile run, course was completed by Jon Wright in 2.18.07, Fred Lynch 2.32.04 and Stuart Cann 2.42.03.

Massive congratulations to Sue Tonge for completing the Melbourne marathon in a fantastic (GFA) time of 4:12:58 and on her birthday too! Also in sunnier climes Kathryn Abbott completed the Palma half marathon in just under 2.16. Also competing were Julie and Tony Thorley.

Gina Biggs went another step towards her 100 marathons by taking part in the Birmingham International Marathon, warming up with the Stratford upon Avon parkrun.

John Allen and Rob Mather took part in the Helvellyn 15k trail race. John’s time of 1.23.11 was closely followed by Rob’s 1.28.14. The day after they attempted the Ullswater run, shortened to 12 k as a result of poor weather.

At the Cuerden Valley parkrun PB’s were achieved by Lucie Clipston 27.22, Emily Ingham 27.36, Judi Ingham 28.33 and Arthur Green 37.34.
