Red Rose opted for the shorter races this weekend. We had plenty of success at the Wilton Arms Serpent 6 mile trail race. Whilst they avoided rain, there was no hiding from the wind on Winter Hill. Great performances brought home the Mens’ team prize and should have also have been rewarded with the Ladies team prize as well, the team consisting of Nicola Hughes, Anneke Crosby and Pauline Moorcroft. Nicola Hughes was the star turn with her 44.10 time securing the Mens’ team prize along with Dan Hughes 39.09 and Phil Davidson 43.11. Anneke Crosby ran another prize winning race with a time of 47.01 followed by Pauline Moorcroft in 48.34 and second F55. Sam Edwards dipped well under 50 minutes in 49.18. Jessica Campbell headed the rest of our team with 54.37, with Alison Mercer 3rd F55 in 55.38, David Hindle 55.47, Katy Cleece 69.57, Ros Crompton 70.06 and Andy Clipston 78.35.
The Green Drive Five was full to capacity providing the chance to race over a distance of 5 miles in windy conditions. Simon Croft ran the course at a rate of 5.40/mile in a time of 28.21 to be placed third. Phil Darwen finished in 33.24 with Dave Brunton not far behind in 34.08. Neil Walker covered the unfamiliar race distance in 36.59. Natalie Moore, 40.39, had the edge in a close contest with Laura Houghton, 40.54. Another great contest ensued between James Hughes 41.01 and Brent Whybro in 41.10. Kelly White finished in 44.15, Karen Clark 52.27, Evelyn Elkington 57.26, Chris Clark 60.54 and Bernard Elkington 67.55.
The Standish Hall Trail Race is always a tough unforgiving course at this time of the year but we had two brave men willing to take on the challenge. Austin Trelfa 62.09 and David Watson 71.00.
Stuart Isherwood travelled to Canada and competed in the Vancouver Sea Wall 10k.
The first parkrun at Hyndburn was graced with a large Red Rose contingent, and they will all be able to claim some sort of PB for their performances. Phil Davidson competed in this as the 66th different event and his 135th parkrun. The Milton Keynes parkrun with 462 runners, saw Peter O’Grady and Marion O’Grady back on home turf with times of 24.40 and 31.23. At Cuerden Valley, Esther Stanier ran a new PB of 28.12. Bryn Jones returned to Preston parkrun and posted a new PB of 27.41.
