The 2nd round of the Mid Lancashire Cross Country took place at Sefton Park, Liverpool on Saturday. The race was integrated into the British Cross Challenge Series and the GB European selection race for European Cross Country Championships. This guaranteed a very large high quality field of runners.

In very challenging conditions, very muddy with hail and rain Red Rose Road Runners had plenty of runners competing.

At the moment the results are only available for the overall race.

In the U11 boys Dylan Maughan finished in 10.03, well done to Dylan as the only RRRR junior competing in the tough conditions.

The senior ladies had 7 runners. 1st home was Nicola Hughes 38.07, Ruth Travis 42.37 closely followed by Pauline Moorcroft 42.50 came next with Laura Houghton 43 46, Samantha Edwards 45.21, Pita Oates 51.06, and Jenny Fairclough 55.09 making up the lady finishers.

The senior men had a bigger team out with 23 finishers. James Simon and Dan Hughes had a close battle finishing in 38.43 and 38.45. The other finishers in the men’s race were:-

Andrew Christie 41.50, Simon Robinson 42.11, Sam Harrison 42.27, Frank Nightingale 43.14, John Naylor 43.15, Kristian Lowe 44.10, Phil Darwen 44.24, Gary Corcoran 44.28, Scott Jackson 44.33, Ken Addison 45.13, Barry Wheeler 46.59, Fred Lynch 47.11, Ben Donoghue 47.34, Simon Shaw 47.48, Mark McCrea 48.53, Johnathon Evans 50.50, Phil Dean 52.42, Ben Smithers 54.56, Wayne Sharples 55.37, Paul Gardner 59.29 and Gareth Fairey 67.42.

At the David Staff memorial fell race 110 hardy souls braved the ice cold conditions to trudge through mud, bogs and snow up and around Darwen tower for the annual race that fits in over a 1000 ft of climbing in 4 miles. The race was won in a present including Andrea Davison tackling her first ever fell race in the tough conditions.
Gareth Bell 42.12, Kevin Smith 42.23, Pita Oates 50.50, Mark McCrea 50.51,Andrea Davidson 66.15.

20 Red Rose Road Runners tackled the cold and wet in Moor Park of a field of 124 runners.

The Wesham 10k saw another PB for Simon Croft in 33:50 for 2nd Overall and 1st FV55 for Jill Jefferson although she couldn’t catch the 5th placed MV55 who finished in a seasons best 43:51. Full
