Following on from last year’s fabulous race, the Montane Trail 10 Dalemain was back for 2018 and the sell out event is a fast, muddy 10k around the beautiful private estate land at Dalemain. Olivia Wiggans lead the Red Rose team with a great performance, taking third female prize in a time of 48.57. Stuart McNair wasn’t far behind in 49.40. John Wiggans beat the hour with a time of 57.30. Sarah Haslam and Mark McCrea crossed the line together in 61.32 followed by Pita and Ray Oates in 63.20. Wendy McNair completed the team with a time of 68.25.

Also on the trails, eleven runners went to the Standish Trail race over a distance of about 10k.Notoriously a tough course, Pauline Moorcroft was the 3rd F55 in a time of 54.32. Joan Gouldthorpe was first F65 in great time of 58.05. Michelle Griffiths came in next in 59.35. Lynn Melvin finished in 60.12. The Lostock 6 mile is a popular race at this time of the year. Simon Croft had great run taking 5th place in 32.27 and 43 year old, Janine Needham was close to the front with a second F40 place in a time of 42.00. Other results: Emily Atkinson 51.47, Kate Clipston 52.43, Natalie Moore 52.44, Steve Taylor 52.44.

There was a 10k double in Blackpool on Saturday and Sunday, some runners doing both events. The Saturday race saw Hannah McCusker finish in 43.52 followed by Stuart Harrison 44.34, Ben Smithers 44.41, Samantha Edwards 45.21, Richard Barnes 44.26, Bryn Jones 50.45, James Butler 54.19, Faisal Ali 57.46, Kelly Day 59.32, Aimee Midgley 62.05, Ruth Watkinson 66.52, Heidi Webber 67.05.

On Sunday, Paul Duffell was 12th overall with a time of 38.54. Other great times came from Stuart Smith 40.47, Michael Oddie 43.11, Richard Barnes 45.31, Andrew Stell 46.18, Ben Smithers 46.30, Sam Edwards 47.44, Matt Cowan 47.50, Katrin Elbag 53.38, Paula Stell 54.52, Leanne Finch 57.23, Natalie Barber 57.30, Helen Greenhalgh 57.45, Hannah Clayton 61.23, Richard Crompton 62.31, Gina Biggs 63.28.

At Preston parkrun PB’s were achieved by Gareth Case 18.53, Nicola Hughes,3rd female, 21.50, David Eaves 27.22, Karen Smith 30.31. At Cuerden Valley, Laura Houghton 24.52, Shane Collins 29.23, Carol Heaton 32.03. The Blackpool event saw some new PB’s with Ben Smithers achieving 22.30, James Butler 26.42, Jo Worswick 27.07, Kelly Day 31.12, Ruth Watkinson 34:55 with Sam Edwards volunteering as tail runner with a time 49.41.

At Whinlatter, a new venue, Philip Davidson completed the mission of competing in all the North West parkruns, 56 in all, with a time of 26.16 and Gina Biggs also competed finishing in 43.31.
