There were Red Rose Road runners at a varied selection of races and parkruns this last weekend.

The Mother’s Day 10K is billed as a fast, flat race.  The Red Rose Road Runners were led in by Jose Pinon Shaw 38:45 finishing in 13th place and 14th was Richard Maughan in 39.06. Other finishers included Ben Smithers (46:32), Baz Bayliss (47:39), Sam Edwards (49:56), Carol Douglass (53:05), Joan Goldthorpe (53:36), Emily Atkinson (54:13) and Toshif Vally (01:09:07).

 

The Jackals 10k and Half Marathon was an entirely different type of challenge taking in some of the most stunning scenery the NW of England has to offer across Darwen Moors. Based on the times, this must have been a tough challenge. In the 10k, Lisa Bolton finished 2nd Lady overall in 01:11:24, followed by Mel Lowe with 01:22:59 and Mac McCormack and Nina Colquhoun both getting 01:55:54.

In the Half Marathon race, Scott Jackson and Lynn Melvin finished in 02:54:16 following closely by Lee Burton with 02:56:13 and Paul James Gardner in 03:05:46.

 

At the Irwell 20 Miler, Dan Hughes put in a good shift to finish 11th with 2:18:02. The team of Red Rose ladies was led in by Mary Conway with 03:26:32, followed by Louise Withnell in 03:33:11, Nicola Patterson and Wendy Rogerson with 03:33:56 and Wendy Ward in 03:50:35.

 

The Roddlesworth Roller celebrated it’s 30th running. Barry Wheeler was the first runner for the club home with 40:13. Janine Needham won the 1st Lady Vet 40 prize with 43:13. Not far behind was Philip Davidson (45:36) and Ray Taylor who won the 1st Male Vet 65 prize with 45:48. Other runners were Chris Taylor (49:35), Austin Trelfa in 51:19 and Debbie Porter with 55:42.

 

Gary Corcoran was the sole participant in the West Pennine Trail Marathon. He overcame 29 miles of bog, rain and ‘the lurgy’ to finish in 6 hours 52 minutes.

Cuerden Valley – A large field of Red Rose Road Runners participated including Sarah Haslam who got a new PB with 30:13.

Preston – The were 27 Red Rose Road Runners here, including Manolo Benji getting a new PB with 20:26, Janine Needham running 22:05 to PB and Gareth Case equalling his PB with 18:53.

The Red Rose parkrun tour continued to Croxteth parkrun, where Mary Conway get a PB with 26:33 getting 1st lady in her age category and 16th place overall. Other travellers included Andrew Christie, Stu Cann, Sam Edwards, Ben Smithers, Gina Biggs, Lynn Melvin, Jenny Fairclough, Anneke Crosby, Liam Hooton, David Hooton, Sue Austin and Phil Davidson.

At Woodbank parkrun, Esther Stanier was the sole Red Rose representative with a time of 28:33.
