The most recent Inter Club race was hosted by Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club at Astley Hall. The Red Rose Ladies team ran strongly in 4th team position. Five excellent performances came from 11th Nicola Hughes 35.19, 12th Hannah McCusker 35.34, 15th Samantha Edwards 36.04, 19th Sue Brookes 38.38 and 25th Claire Shaw39.06. The Ladies F40 team went one better taking 3rd place. Sue Brookes 38.38, Ann Cleave 39.41, Alison Parkinson 40.30, Rachel Robinson 41.10, Alicia Croft 41.24.

Simon Croft had a hard battle to finish in 4th place overall in a time of 27.17. The Vet 50 team took second team place represented by Frank Nightingale, Mike Hall, Ken Addison and Steve Tingle. The Vet 60 team consolidated their 1st positon in the season’s total with runs from Ken Addison, Ray Taylor and Dave Hooton.

The Howgills Triathlon based in the picturesque town of Sedbergh, is a 400m pool swim, a 30k ‘out and back’ cycle ride, finishing with a tough 8k off road run. Mike Hall finished as 5th V50 in 2.02.35, David Raynor finished as 10th in 2.13.45. Ruth Travis finished in 11th FV40 in 2.44.08.

Ben Smithers took on the Isle of Man marathon and parkrun. He ran 23.29 at the Nobles Parkrun and completed his unfinished business with the marathon, running his third fastest time, 3.34.

The City of Preston, 5 and 10 mile race starting in Walmer Bridge was well attended with 21 Red Rose competing. The 5 mile results, Peter O’Grady 45.53, Jayne Grzywna 58.52, Jacqueline Winslow 59.01, Andrea Davison 59.04Kaayleigh Scott 59.05, Aimee-Jai Dunlop-Molnar 59.28,Gail Dunlop 59.28. The 10 mile results were Steve Murphy 75.39, Samantha Edwards 78.17(PB), Richard Barnes 79.38, John Wiseman 80.19,Pauline Moorcroft 83.14, (1st F55.) Michael Coupland 84.32, David Hindle 91.47, Esther Stanier 93.32, Steve Pickering 94.35,Joanna Dobson 1.50.41, Fiona Gutteridge 1.53.13, Stuart Harrison 1.59.28,Annie Owens 2.02.36, Mary Conway 2.02.37.

At the Catforth 5k, Lee Quibell edged a tough battle with Richard Maughan, finishing in 18.53, just 5 seconds ahead. Emily Ingham ran a great time of 22.35. Sandra Rolston ran 31.40 followed by Georgia Blundell in 31.57 and Arthur Green in 37.47.

The Leigh 10k, saw Simon Croft finish 4th in 34.01, winning the 2nd V35 prize. Manolo Mendoza finished in 39.48 and took 2nd place in the V45 category. Janine Needham ran 43.48 taking second F40 and Jill Jefferson took the F60 prize in a time of 44.13.

The Cuerden Valley Parkrun had a great turnout of 270 with five Red Rose PB’s being achieved. Scott Jackson 21.59, Steve Murphy 24.17, Garry Li 25.49, Rebecca Chesters 30.11 and Vanessa Willett 43.12.

Gina Biggs stayed on target for her latest challenge of running 52 marathons in 52 weeks. She completed the Caldecotte Enigma marathon.

This week we have heard the sad news that fellow runner Graham Vickers passed away after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Louise and his close family.
